Koota Injena

Koota Injena-AMREF

Nicole London, a senior Development manager at AMREF Health Africa, was given an assignment to document one of the programs (Koota Injena- translated as “come, let us talk”) which had been running for three years where millions of dollars had been spent. She was determined to show how they have been able to rescue hundreds of girls from Female Genital Mutilation and Early Girl Child Marriages.

In spite of an extremely tight timeline we were able to travel to Samburu, 400km away fromNairobi, conduct interviews and produce 5 emotionally compelling and visually appealing stories in the required time. The videos were shared with USAID and the state department (their biggest fund of the project) and uploaded on Amref’s website and social media pages.

“You were the best. Not only do you have incredible vision as a videographer/photographer (and so much patience hehe) but what surprised me most was how much passion you had for the project itself, how you took the time to understand it and what we were trying to communicate about it, and why it mattered. Without that, there is no question in my mind that the final products would have been worse off.”
